Frequently Asked Questions – Gold & Precious Metal Scrap Refining

What types of gold-bearing electronic scrap do you buy?
We purchase a wide range of high-yield, gold-bearing electronic components, including motherboards and high-grade circuit boards, hard drive logic boards (green boards only), RAM and memory chips, and CPUs and IC chips. We do not accept full computers, power supplies, loose hard drives, or monitors. All scrap must be pre-sorted into acceptable component types before drop-off or shipment.
How do I sell my gold scrap to Rica Recycling?
First, sort your material into approved categories such as boards, chips, and CPUs. Then request a quote using the form on this page — please do not ship anything until you receive confirmation from us. Once approved, you can drop off your material at our Hayward, California facility or ship it to us if your lot qualifies. After we receive your scrap, we evaluate it and issue payment based on current precious-metal recovery values.
How do you determine the value of my gold-bearing scrap?
Our pricing is based on the weight and composition of your material, the estimated gold recovery yield, and the current market price of gold. Because we work directly with trusted refiners, we can offer competitive payouts and transparent pricing without middleman markups.
Do you accept full computers or laptops?
No. We only accept pre-sorted high-grade components such as boards, chips, and CPUs. If you have intact electronics to recycle, please use our e-waste drop-off or business pickup services instead of the gold scrap program.
Do you have a minimum quantity requirement?
For local drop-offs, there is no strict minimum — we work with individuals, repair shops, IT recyclers, and businesses of all sizes. For shipped material, we may require a minimum total value to cover freight costs. If you're unsure whether your lot qualifies, contact us and we’ll review it with you.
How long does it take to receive my payment?
Most quotes are provided within 3–5 business days. After we receive and evaluate your material, payments are typically issued within 3–5 business days via check, ACH, or PayPal, depending on your preference.
Where are you located, and do you accept shipments from outside the Bay Area?
Our facility is located in Hayward, California. Local customers can drop off gold-bearing scrap during our regular business hours. We also accept qualifying shipments from anywhere in the United States and will provide shipping instructions once your material has been reviewed and approved.
Are your refining and recovery practices environmentally responsible?
Yes. All materials are processed through certified precious-metal refiners who follow strict environmental standards. This ensures safe handling, responsible gold recovery, and proper disposal of any hazardous components, keeping harmful materials out of the waste stream.
