Bringing Art to Rica Recycling: Our New Hayward Mural Project

The completed Rica Recycling mural in Hayward, California.

At Rica Recycling, we’ve always believed that electronics recycling is about more than just properly disposing of e-waste. It’s about building a cleaner, more sustainable future for our community and creating a space that people feel good about visiting.

As a family-run and locally owned electronics recycling company in Hayward, we wanted our building to visually reflect those values in a meaningful way. That vision eventually became our new mural project, created in collaboration with local artist Leksi of Leksi Paints.

From the beginning, our goal was to create something that felt welcoming and community-oriented. Many people visit our warehouse for e-waste drop-offs, appliance recycling, and electronics recycling services, and we wanted the space to feel less industrial and more connected to the Bay Area community we serve.

We gave Leksi a general theme centered around sustainability, technology, nature, and the Bay Area, and the design process quickly became a collaborative effort. Over the course of three months — including one month of design work, one month of permitting, and one month of painting — the mural slowly came to life.

One of our favorite parts of the mural is the way it blends electronics with nature. Throughout the artwork, you’ll notice recycled technology woven into natural landscapes alongside California poppies, Bay Area scenery, and wildlife. The mural also features our family golden retriever, Lulu, who is very special to us and adds a personal touch to the project.

Watching the mural come together each day was an incredible experience. We received positive feedback from customers, employees, and even our neighboring taco truck while the painting was in progress. Many people mentioned how much brighter and more welcoming the space now feels.

For us, this mural represents more than just public art. It represents the connection between technology, sustainability, and community — values that have always been central to Rica Recycling’s mission.

We’re incredibly thankful to Leksi Paints for helping bring this vision to life. Her creativity, professionalism, and attention to detail transformed our warehouse into something truly special for our team, our customers, and the Hayward community.
